Around 250 people crowded into Grimesthorpe allotments on a sunny Sunday, the 22nd September 2013, for Allotment Soup. The event, an annual creative and artistic harvest celebration of food growing and allotment culture, was organised by Grimesthorpe Allotment Society and Grow Sheffield.

From midday until 5 o’clock adults and children from across the city and close by visited about 30 plots. They were inspired by a variety of approaches to vegetable growing as well as being treated to storytelling, circus skills, craft, seed bombs and apple pressing.

The allotment shop hosted a competition for a new flag for the site and the huts were a culinary centre for some very fine allotment soups and other delicacies. From 5 o’clock onwards, with more people arriving, everybody gathered around the huts for a barbecue. Fine music and animated conversation came to an end as night fell on a balmy evening.
