Allotment Federation hold meeting about allotment rent increases

Sheffield Allotments and Leisure Gardeners Federation are holding a meeting on 20th May, following proposals by Sheffield City Council to further increase allotment rents.

Plot holders saw their allotment rents double this year. For example those with a medium size plot paid £35 in 2012 and £70 in April this year. In 2014 the same plot will cost £112.

The concession policy will also change in 2014. Pensioners and those claiming benefits are entitled to a 50% discount this year. In 2014, those claiming benefits will have a 75% discount, but pensioners will only receive 25%.

The next Federation Meeting is on Monday 20th May 7pm at the Quaker Meeting House, St James St, Sheffield, S1. There will be a discussion on allotment rent rises attended by Chris Heeley, Head of Service, Countryside and Environment Section and Cllr Jack Scott, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling & Streetscene. Allotment rents are increasing by 100% 2013/14 and by another 60% 2014/15. All allotment and community gardeners are welcome to attend. Bring your questions, queries and comments.
