Live Art: To be, in male/female balance
Friday June 21st at 7.30pm on Ellesmere Green, Spital Hill.
Panni Poh Yoke Loh has organised a Live Art project to take place on Sptal Hill. She explains:
This project has come about because a gender imbalance has occurred around the Spital Hill area, with many more men on the streets and in the cafes than women. This Live Art intervention is for women to simply ‘be’ peacefully in the area in public places and cafes, to ensure more women feel comfortable and safe walking through and being in the area. I will document the intervention by photography and video and gather quotes from men and women.
As an artist I work in various media one of which is Live Art. In my live art I communicate directly with my audience, creating situations and possibilities for them to interact, and time to positively contemplate their place in creating harmony within their surrounding environments both natural and urban.
Initial gathering at 7.30pm Ellesmere Green, Spital Hill to agree on where small groups will disperse around the area
We want women to simply ‘be’ in the area to create more peaceful female presence, on the streets, on the green, benches and eating/drinking in the cafes.
Please invite other women, sisters, mothers, grandmothers, daughters. Male partners/friends also welcome as long as they come with women.
The peaceful intervention will go ahead no matter the weather so please wrap up warm bring waterproofs if necessary
If you wish to eat in a café please come financially prepared – most are very reasonable prices
Panni will be taking group photographs and video – if you would rather not be on these please let her know.
The intervention is for as long as you would like to stay, but Panni will gather documentation until 9pm (it’s the longest day so it will be light till late)
Please let Panni know if you would like to participate.
