Pakistan Advice and Community Association Community Development Worker opportunity

PACA is seeking a new Community Development Worker to work on an exciting new project in partnership with Sheffield University called “Genetics Aware”, with the aim to improve the understanding amongst the community and professionals about the risks of congenital disorders particularly as a result of first-cousin marriages, and to contribute to academic understanding of these issues through a research project.

  • You will have experience of delivering complex projects in a community setting working to deadlines, and will be a highly skilled communicator able to work with a diverse range of people, handling sensitive topics tactfully and diplomatically.

  • You will have some prior knowledge of the cultural issues surrounding first cousin marriage, and will ideally be aware of congenital disorders and their implications.

  • You should be fluent in at least one community language, ideally Urdu, and be IT literate to a high standard.

  • We would also expect you to have considerable experience in community engagement.

  • Experience of report writing is also desirable.

Hours: 14 per week

Salary: £8,736 per annum

Location: PACA, 127 Page Hall Road, Sheffield, S4 8GU
