The new South Yorkshire Police Commissioner Shaun Wright, visited Burngreave Vestry Hall on Saturday 26th January 2013, following an invitation from Al-Taqwa mosque.
Speaking to the residents who had braved the snow, he said,
“This is a diverse community which we should be proud of. Communication an issue for us in an area with so many languages and we need the help of those who are multilingual to work with services like the police, so that we can work together to get better services for local communities.”
Mohamed Ali, Imam at Al-Taqwa mosque, thanked everyone for organising the event.
“In 2011, young people from our community died. It was a difficult time. We would like to thank the police for the work they have done and we are continuing to develop a better relationship with the police.”
Imam Ali invited the Commissioner to join the Somali community again for the launch of the Somali Community Forum on 2nd March 2013, 12noon at Burngreave Vestry Hall.
