Police closed Catherine Road, Burngreave Bank, Burngreave Street and Coupe Road, following an incident on Tuesday 9th October, where a young man was wounded.

The Police have released the following statement:

“Police were alerted at 7.50pm last night, Tuesday, 9 October, after a man went to A&E with a wound. The man, thought to be in his early 20s, has a serious injury to his hand and arm. The incident is believed to have happened on Burngreave Road.”

Police were seen searching the pavement on Burngreave Road at 9pm on Tuesday night, and Burngreave Road was closed shortly afterwards. On Wednesday Burngreave Road was reopened, but the streets at the bottom of Catherine Road remain closed.

One local resident reported that the injury was the result of a gun shot. The police later released an updated report:

South Yorkshire Police can confirm a twenty-two-year-old local man, suffered gun shot wounds to his hand and arm, which are not life-threatening.

The incident is believed to have happened on Burngreave Road at around 7pm.

Police believe there is no risk to the wider public in the area and would like to thank the local community for their patience.

Officers would like to hear from anyone in the Burngreave Road area from 7pm to 7.30pm last night, if they heard or saw anything suspicious that could be linked to this shooting.

Police cordons were removed on Wednesday afternoon.
