Sheffield Anti Cuts Alliance (SACA)

SACA held its first meeting in November 2010, and since then, has been involved in organising and publicising local rallies, demonstrations and meetings against the ConDem cuts, particularly those implemented locally.

In March 2011, we worked with the Right to Work campaign to organise a demonstration of 5000 in Sheffield against the LibDem Spring Conference.

March 2012 sees yet another round of local council cuts which will lead to further losses of local services and jobs, to be implemented by local councillors in Sheffield and across the UK. In Sheffield we have seen £80 million cut in 2011, a further £57 million planned for 2012, and more to follow next year and beyond.

The participation of both ConDem and Labour councillors in implementing the cuts makes a mockery of the local elections in May.

Anti Cuts groups, which are non-party political coalitions, have sprung up across the UK to fight the cuts, and SACA believes it is now time to organise a regional meeting with workshops to discuss future strategy for Anti Cuts groups. While we have invited a small number of speakers, the main emphasis will be open discussion with contributions from all those who attend.
