The Port of Sheffield is a major arts project taking place on the Sheffield Canal. Using live performance, bold visual design and original sound it will journey east along the canal, from Victoria Quays to Tinsley Locks. Audiences will encounter large events at sites along its route.
Living memories and historical research will be used to create the content. The team will be made up of local and regional artists and performers. Sound will be designed by 65 Days of Static and Martyn Ware (Heaven 17; The Illustrious Company).
The production will create a contemporary mirror of the city, exploring its history and celebrating its future.
The project is jointly led by The Blue Shed and Sheffield Theatres and supported by Arts Council England and RECITE (University of Sheffield.
It is starting in May 2012 with a consultation and will culminate in September 2013.
We are interested in hearing from artists, organisations and communities, from anyone who thinks they can make a contribution. If you are interested in learning more and informing the future direction of the work please email Bobby Tiwana bobby@theportofsheffield.co.uk by mid-June 2012.
