Changes at Burngreave Community Radio

Following the loss of the FM licence in September 2011, Burngreave Community Radio (BCR) has been planning for the future.

In July, the station will call itself Steel City Radio (SCR), and will be applying for an FM licence in March 2013. In the meantime, the station will continue over the internet and through mobile phones. Aisha Special K told the Messenger:

“I was in shock when we lost the licence last year. When the BCR company closed, we didn’t realise it would prevent us holding the licence. We have a good relationship with OFCOM, so we are confident we can gain a new license.”

Aisha felt the change in name will make it easier for more people to be involved, but it will keep a focus on playing Urban music.

There are still a number of steps to go through. The new station will launch at SumFest UK on 29th July. A company will need to be formed before the licence can be applied for in March 2013.

In the meantime, BCR is offering 4-week media training courses. To find out more, contact the station on 213 2360, 07554 899 622 or email bcr103.1fm@hotmail.com
