Burngreave's Interfaith Peace Walks have become a regular activity and this year will be the seventh year the walk has taken place.
Sheffield residents from a variety of different faiths will join the city’s seventh annual ‘Peace Walk’ this Sunday, 27th March 2011. Taking in several places of worship, the walk will make a bold statement, celebrating the diverse communities that live together in Sheffield and showing unity in opposition to the racist politics of the British National Party and English Defence League who seek to stir up hatred and division.
This year’s walk will start at Al Rahman Mosque on Ellesmere Rd at 2:30pm and end at Ghousia Mosque in Fir Vale, taking in numerous different places of worship en route.
Abdool Gooljar, President of the Islamic Society of Britain (South Yorkshire), said,
“It is wonderful to see people come together to deliver this important message. The vast majority enjoy the rich tapestry of Sheffield life. We must oppose those who threaten to divide us.”
