Burngreave Community Action Forum’s meeting in May aimed to document the effect of the cuts in public services on Burngreave so far.
High on the agenda was young people. Recent successes with Study Support and Activity Sheffield were overshadowed by news of Streetworx closing on 31st May. Sheffield Futures have said more cuts will be coming. The meeting agreed to raise serious concerns with the Council and Sheffield Futures.
Adult Learning was also a priority. Small organisations have complained that they have been cut out of the proposed commissioning process, and the large organisations and businesses are looking to take over the delivery of courses.
Since then, the Council has put commissioning on hold, while a review is undertaken.
Campaigning against fees for ESOL was a high priority. BCAF is working with the Sheffield CALL campaign and BME network to maintain pressure on politicians to get this policy changed before it comes into force in September.
