Story: Claire Shaw
It is sometimes hard to settle into a new area and new community, especially if you can’t speak the language. You can often find that everything is so different – systems, education and how the public services work.
The Owler Brook Action for Children’s Centre and Owler Brook School have worked hard together at trying to bring Slovak families who are new to the area together, developing a programme around:
Accessing services
Health
Child development and play
Education
Accessing work
18 families are involved, some of which have now progressed on to pre-entry ESOL.
With many thanks to the two student nurses working alongside the North MAST team, Rachel Kojro and Mike Bell who helped to put the programme together and support the group with Owler Brook School and the Children,s Centre.
