Story: Smaira Sadique

After 8 years as the Headteacher at Bryon Wood Primary School, Mr Carter has decided to hand the reigns of the school over to Mrs Ashton who was appointed as the new Headteacher.

Everyone had the opportunity to say goodbye to Mr Carter, the parents held a special lunch for him in the community room with a French theme which was followed by a special assembly on the last day of term. The staff and children enjoyed a ‘This is your Life’ themed assembly where pictures and anecdotes from Mr. Carter’s career and personal life were shared with everyone.

Goodbye Mr. C. was a song written especially for him and sung by all the staff and children, there weren’t many dry eyes in the hall that afternoon.

Mr Carter has worked in Burngreave for many years as a teacher and then as a Headteacher, he leaves behind a legacy of, ‘…a good school…with some outstanding features’ as stated by Ofsted in 2010.

He has made Byron Wood into the successful school it is today, opening its doors to parents and the community alike. Under his watchful eye the school has thrived, and the children have flourished. This is something that Mrs Ashton is committed to continuing with her staff team who she calls the ‘A’ team.
