The new Labour Council made keeping the Pitsmoor Adventure Playground open, a ‘priority’ in their new reign at the Council.

Labour Councillor Ibrar Hussain, who used to play there as a child, said, “The playground and young people are one of Labour’s priorities, we will not see it close.” He had nothing but praise for the playground where his own son plays on occasion. He went on to say that the surrounding community where he himself had grown up, was what made the playground so special.

Manager of the Playground Richard Fowler remains proud of what it has done for the children who play there. He said, “It is a free, local, easy way for the children to get outside, make new friends, and have a good time”. He had promising plans for the future of the playground, including days out for the children, some of whom had probably never left the area before.

Much of the equipment on the 32 year old playground, including the brand new main attraction, the slide, has been built by the staff. Jabien, Josh and Luke (regular visitors), when asked about their favourite part of the playground without any hesitation pointed at the slide

The playground represents everything that is good about the area, and is a welcome distraction from street corners and game consoles. Let’s hope it remains open for many more years!
