Playbuilder project goes ahead

Following a halt on expenditure due to the general election, the Playbuilder Programme funding has been reinstated and so work finally began in February for the construction of the Denholme Close Play Area. The work is predicted to take approximately 6 weeks and should be completed by 14th March.

The majority of the work will focus on the installation of 4 new pieces of play equipment including:

  • Congo – climbing unit with woodchip surfacing

  • Cableway – zip line to be placed running across the slope outside the current play area. Grass safety mat surfacing.

  • Nest swing – swing which allows multiple users. Grass safety mat surfacing.

  • Springboard – small springy play unit with woodchip surfacing.

Further work to the site will include:

  • Removing a couple of the dated existing play equipment.

  • Moving the existing fencing line to allow new equipment.

  • Planting 2 trees.

  • Small amount of earthworks.

  • General light clearance of vegetation around the park.

In addition to this, Northern Counties Housing Association has agreed to fund the purchase of new swing seats to be added to the existing swing units. These are to be fitted by the Parks & Countryside Service.

During the construction the contractors will be mainly entering the site via the lower entrance to the site off Rock Street, though some occasional access may be required via Denholme Close from time to time.
