St Catherine’s Primary School has been awarded the International Schools Award from the British Council.
The school carried out activities to win the award, including a celebration of Black History Month, linked to history curriculum work. St Catherine's also has an international link with a school in Zambia. Both Y3 teachers visited Zambia last year, which helped them develop a robust, creative curriculum that teaches children to question assumptions, learn from differences and identify similarities.
Teacher Miriam Cocker, one of the global co-ordinators in the school, together with fellow teacher Lynne Biggs, said:
“The ISA award recognises the hard work that the children, parents and staff have contributed towards these aims.”
Rebecca Picton, of the British Council International School Award, told the school:
“This is a great achievement and one that deserves celebrating and sharing widely. I hope that the scope of your excellent international activities will continue to develop and benefit school community; your support, commitment, creativity and innovative international work is greatly appreciated.”
