The history of Wincobank Hill - Special Event

Wincobank Hill

The fascinating history of Wincobank Hill will be the subject of a special illustrated talk by ArchHeritage, held this Thursday 4th August 2011, 7pm at Upper Wincobank Chapel, Wincobank Avenue, S5 6BB

The talk will feature a recently commissioned report on the area's important archaeology carried out by ArchHeritage, including its ancient woodland, charcoal burners, mines, tips and, of course, its Iron Age hill fort.

The report brings together work by a range of organisations including the Friends of Wincobank Hill, Sheffield University, South Yorkshire Archaeology Service and Sheffield City Council.

Sheffield Council's Woodlands team hope that the report will create a better understanding of the site and guide its future management including management of the woodland areas, positive management of archaeological remains and the requirements and aspirations of the general public who make use of the site.

The talk is free and open to anyone who is interested or curious about the area. Refreshments will be served from 6.30pm

For information please contact Adam Goodall, Woodlands Officer, Sheffield City Council Tel: 0114 205 3787 or email: adam.goodall@sheffield.gov.uk
