200 nursery and reception children at Owler Brook Nursery and Infant School showed their support for the children’s charity Barnardo’s by participating in a sponsored walk to Firth Park on the 13th of July.
The children, accompanied by parent volunteers, teachers and PCSOs, walked from Owler Brook to Firth Park in aid of the charity Barnardo’s. Many children, teachers and even parents were dressed up as lions, bumblebees, parrots and penguins and were armed with bright face painting, all in order to raise money for the charity.
Barnardo’s offers help to vulnerable children all across the UK and provides hope and stability to many children.
The children were greeted by Jofli Bear when they reached the children’s centre at Firth Park who gave them all medals to commemorate their achievement.
Sue Bridges, headteacher, commented on the walk saying:
“Owler Brook is strongly committed to encouraging children and families to walk to school, keeping healthy and enjoying local facilities, so the Big Toddle event was a great success”.
The Big Toddle also coincides with the theme of road safety which is greatly promoted at Owler Brook.
All in all, the Big Toddle was a massive achievement for Owler Brook as over 150 families took part to raise money for Barnardo’s, whilst having lots of fun on the way. Well done to everyone who participated on the walk!
