On July 7th Byron Wood’s Y6 brass band entertained the audience at Sheffield City Hall with some ska music, as part of the annual ‘City of Excellence’ Awards ceremony.

The band, who have been learning brass instruments together for the past three years, not only played ‘Cornerstone’ by John Drummond, but actually composed a middle section themselves. Mrs Stroud, Performing Arts Teacher said, “they were quite nervous before they went on stage so I was so proud of how well they played for the audience.”

Not to be outdone, Byron Wood’s choir sang at Sheffield Cathedral, taking part in the chorus of ‘Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat.’ They were joined by other school choirs and the Cathedral Junior Choir. Headteacher, Mrs Ashton praised the choir saying, “they’ve worked so hard to learn all the words. The whole production was a great success.”
