Eighteen individuals and groups were nominated in the Burngreave Ward for a Heart in the Community Award and all of these unsung heroes and heroines were invited to receive their certificates at the Burngreave Area Ward meeting on Thursday 16 June at Fir Vale School.
The Certificate winners included:
Peter Lamb – who has received the highest award in scouting
Burngreave Community Radio – for their hard work, dedication and commitment.
Christine Steers – a member of the Friends of Burngreave Chapel and Cemetery
Zabeda Hussain – a good role model for other women and has put lots of time and energy back into the community.
Michelle Cook – for the voluntary work she does all over Burngreave.
Bryn Gaines – for his work with Environmental Services to help clear public open spaces and improve the street scene.
Shahnaz Hussain – for the huge positive impact she has made on many people’s lives
Val Ellis – for encouraging and motivating people with mental health problems
Zaiada Bibi –is an excellent role model to all members of the community.
Lisa Harrison and Shahnaz Mahmood – for their work with the Roma Slovak community
Paul Howard – for his long service as Deputy Head at Parkwood School.
Romano Jilo Dancers – for their performance at the Heart in the Community Awards ceremony in March at the Town Hall.
