BCAF aims to bring together residents and community organisations in Burngreave and to build our capacity for cooperation and communication. From April BCAF will not have enough funding to employ a worker, however it will continue to work for the community through the network it has built up over recent years and with the support of volunteers.
Public meetings
BCAF will continue to hold regular public meetings. In 2010, BCAF held four public meetings where local residents could discuss issues with professionals working in the area. The next meeting will be:
Saturday 14th May, 11am – 1pm, Burngreave . The meeting will aim to get a grip on the local affects of cuts. If your job is being affected or a service you receive is being cut, we want to hear from you. Come along to the meeting, or contact us at Abbeyfield Park House.
Network groups
BCAF supports four network groups working alongside other local groups and statutory organisations.
The Adult Learning Working Group plays a key role in planning provision and co-ordinating what courses for adults are offered locally. Through BCAF, the group has gained funding for local conversation clubs, run “ESOL into work” courses and other one off courses.
The Burngreave Health Network aims to bring organisations working health together in the area. BCAF has set up an online database of local health initiatives, held quarterly meetings, maintained a mailing list and helped organise a health zone at Abbeyfield and Firth Park Winter Festivals.
Burngreave Youth Network meets monthly to discuss local activities for children and young people so its members can aim to co-ordinate services. BCAF helps gather information to publicise holiday activities and is also updating the online database of young people’s provision at http://www.burngreaveyouthnetwork.co.uk.
Burngreave Together is the name of BCAF’s faiths network. In 2010, BCAF did a project to help make links between a number of faith groups in Burngreave and to map them out. Many are linked on the “Belief in Burngreave” section of the Messenger’s website.
E-mail lists
BCAF has e-mail lists for people interested in Health, Adult Learning, Faith issues and Young People. It also has an e-mail list for jobs. If you want to be added to any of these lists, contact us at enquiries@bcaf.org.uk.
Office move
BCAF has now moved to Abbeyfield Park House, Abbeyfield Road, Sheffield S4 7AT. Drop in any Tuesday between 2pm and 6pm. The doorbell is round the back of the house. Contact us at enquiries@bcaf.org.uk
