In the summer, 30 children aged 8-13 from Burngreave After School Study Support attended a one-week educational project organised by the Sheffield Children's University. In the process, they improved their maths and literacy skills and found out about University.
The young people visited Manor Lodge Discovery Centre, where they learned about archaeology, and Bishops’ House, where they learned to build shelters in the woods and dress up as characters from the olden days. At Kelham Island, they participated in workshops about better pay and conditions for workers. Heeley City Farm was a popular trip, where they saw all the animals and dug underground to find ruins. The young people enjoyed a final day at the Millennium Galleries where they met others on the programme and contributed personal items to put in a time capsule.
