Greater Somali Community Network Celebration

The Greater Somali Community Network (GSCN) held a celebration of the achievement of their Homework Club on Saturday 31st July at Sorby House.

The Lord Mayor presented awards to the children who had worked hardest and made the most progress in improving their learning.

Over 150 children and parents were in attendance and enjoyed traditional Somali songs and delicious food.

The GSCN is a locally formed group that aims to improve the educational achievements and overall well-being of their community. The homework club was initially set up as a pilot project for only 15 children. But overwhelming demand and immediate success meant the club quickly expanded to serve over 80 children.

Resources are now being sought to further expand the club so more children can be helped to achieve their potential. If you would like more information about the GSCN or the Homework Club, please contact Sharif Hassan at hassanaden@yahoo.co.uk
