Cinderella… with a difference

The Dalek arrives
The Dalek arrives

Pye Bank School’s end of term play was a performance to remember. Their cutting edge production was a truly entertaining blend of fairy tale, science fiction, drama and reality TV.

Just five weeks in the making, the play had a cast of 30 children from Year 6 and dancers from Year 3, with characters including Prince Charming, a pantomime cow, Cinderella and her ugly sisters, Doctor Who, Darth Vader and Yoda, all set in the Big ‘Mother’ reality TV studio. The highlight of the show was the dramatic appearance of a full size Dalek, which had apparently been hiding out in the school for some time.

Children showed not only their talent for acting and performance but a keen sense of comic timing. Drama teacher Mr Marsden could not praise them enough, he told the children after they’d all taken a final bow:

“In just five weeks, you’ve achieved an amazing production. You can be very proud of yourselves. I’m certainly proud of you all.”
