Shirecliffe residents expressed their anger at recent bus changes at a meeting in August at Shirecliffe Community Centre.
Changes to the 33 and 7 have left the south of Shirecliffe, near Penrith Road, with a much reduced service. The replacement 72 only runs once an hour, finishes just after 6pm and doesn't run on a Sunday. First Buses have introduced the high-frequency 73, competing directly with Stagecoach’s 83, but both services miss the estate.
In the meeting, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive offered to consider running a subsidised evening service but, as it had no evidence of demand, a survey of residents will be carried out in October. If any service is offered, it would not start before January.
