Sheffield Council have unveiled plans for a new Council Housing development at Ellesmere, which if completed will be one of the first Local Authority owned housing schemes to be built in Sheffield for many years.
Officers overseeing the project expressed their enthusiasm for the innovative environmental features of the scheme, such as rainwater harvesting and solar panels, but could only remain hopeful that reductions to Government funding for social housing would not prevent the development from going ahead.
Speaking at Burngreave Community Action Forum's quarterly meeting on the 12th June, a member of the Council's North Sheffield Regeneration Team said that the design for Ellesmere represented some of the highest standards of housing possible and that any reduction in Government funding for the scheme would not lead to a lowering of quality but that the plans would simply be shelved until the necessary finances could be raised.
