Heads Off

Story: Douglas Johnson

Three local secondary schools will change their headteachers in the next academic year from September.

Chris Mallaband has been the head of Parkwood since 2005 and has been the Principal of the Academy for the last 12 months. In a letter to parents, he explained his decision to move to a post in London with another Academy.

Fir Vale School is to lose Lesley Bowes, headteacher after “five very happy years” as she moves to King Ecgbert’s School. Commenting on the strong position she leaves the school in, she described the school’s “outstanding position in terms of what we achieve with our students” and points to the “phenomenal results” last year. Lesley is confident of a good new head with appointment from “a very strong shortlist” due as we go to press.

Mo Laycock is retiring from Firth Park Community College, where current deputy Chris Keen will take over.
