On Friday 14th May local residents were treated to an evening of fun and pampering at Firshill Primary School.

Upon paying a £2.50 entry fee, the entertainment on offer included threading, henna painting, belly dancing, (where guests were welcome to give it a go!) hair and make-up as well as a Body Shop at home and refreshments stall.

I spoke to the organiser, Nazakat Khan, who works on behalf of local the community project known as Healthy Cross as a Community Engagement Worker.

“I arranged the night to try and bring surrounding areas such as Pitsmoor, Firvale and Burngreave together to show that they can get along.” he said.

Healthy Cross is a volunteer run project that aims to provide help to those suffering from problems concerning drugs, mental health and family. They hold events regularly and offer both individual support and group activities such as fitness classes to those who wish to improve their physical and mental health.
