Children from Firshill School are getting motorists to open their eyes and cut their speed with new Vehicle-Activated Signs near their school.

Kath Hobson, Firshill’s Extended Schools Support Worker, took children out to give the road safety message directly to motorists – Children ‘zapped’ vehicles with a speed gun as they passed and gave the thumbs down sign when speeds of 31mph or more were registered. The children have already been learning about staying safe on the roads, watching out for cars and using crossings safely.

The area was chosen by the Community Assembly because of issues with speeding and a number of collisions. The signs work by flashing up a ‘slow down’ warning sign to vehicles that approach too quickly.
