June will see the next quarterly public meeting run by Burngreave Community Action Forum, which will look at what the housing issues are in our area.
We want to make sure our public meetings lead to action that helps and involves local people. So what have we done with what was said at the last meeting?
Cuts
In response to concerns about cuts in services, we continued to support the campaign for adult learning. In April the campaign won back provision for the summer term.
Health
Working with the Health Network, we have started a audit of health projects which is available on the BCAF website. In response to discussions at the Forum meeting we will also be exploring non-electronic communication for this group, including a health zone at this year's summer festivals.
Young people
“There's a lot happening for young people, but residents don't know about it,”
was one comment at the last meeting. Youth Network is planning to promote all holiday activities, not just for the summer, by email, Facebook (search for Sheffield Youth Network), schools and through the Messenger and website
Festivals
“Keep the festival local,”
was the call at the last meeting. We are working with local schools who are developing performances and encouraging local young people to perform. We also held a meeting for local residents and organisations who came up with great ideas and things they could contribute. See https://archive.burngreavemessenger.org.uk/archives/june-2010-issue/summer-festivals/ for festival news. We hope to see you at the next meeting, or you can join one of our mailing lists.
