Story: Saleema Imam

St Catherine’s Primary School pupils won the under 11s Best Business category in this year’s national ‘Make Your Mark With a Tenner’ competition. Enterprise UK gave thousands of potential entrepeneurs £10 to start up their mini businesses.

Two teams of four from St Catherine’s pooled their cash, gave up their breaks for a term and planned and implemented two business ideas – a juice bar in school breaks and printing T-shirts to order and made over £100 profit (£74 from the juice bar).

Their teacher and mentor was “thrilled with their dedication and enthusiasm, giving up their own time to take part. It was hard work but the end result made it worthwhile for everyone.” To win from thousands of entries was an unexpected reward.
