Quality in Study Support
Story: Jon Cowley
In June and July all four Burngreave-based study support groups gained the "Quality in Study Support" (QiSS) award in recognition of the fantastic work that they do with young people in the area.
In the last year Burngreave After School Study Support, Reach High 2, Somali Education Breakthrough and ITCSSS, enrolled 388 young people. They've been doing regular study support each week throughout the school year, but also lots of sporting and cultural activities.
Penny Rea, from the Children's University, praised one group with these words: "I would like to congratulate you not only on this achievement but also on the energy and effort you and your team are putting in to improving the academic and life chances of the young people you support."
School attainment in Burngreave has improved steadily with better schools, study support and greater involvement by parents. But they still lag behind the average in Sheffield so the work needs to go on. It is still unclear what funding the Council will provide for the Consortium after August.
