Story: Michelle Cook
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport is consulting on the introduction of a new fares system and changes to the bus network.
One proposal is to have a smartcard system like the Oyster card in London, where you top up your card at kiosks, shops or online. Fares will then be charged by zone. Importantly, the new system could allow you to buy just one ticket for a journey, even if you need to change buses and it could be used on all operators. Buses will still accept cash fares but these may be more expensive than using your card.
