Story: Saleema Imam
For the past year (2008-9), we have waited for the dust and noise to settle but, at last, the new school buildings are up and running.
A state-of-the-art Foundation building replaces the old nursery. Seven new classrooms replace the four in temporary huts. Soft surfaces and new equipment behind the school enable a lot of the learning to be done outdoors.
The Crescent Community Centre, a much larger space than that demolished, will host regular STEPS meetings, keep fit, yoga, Brownies, Rainbows and Guides, the Thursday lunch club and craft sessions. It is also available for private hire. It offers a kitchen and – soon – a family learning room with audio-visual equipment and computers.
The Crescent open day
The school invites everyone to visit the community centre on 30th September 2009 between 11am and 3pm for tea and cakes. The school will display work from the children’s Heritage Project, undertaken with a huge contribution from local residents, the Firshill Local History Group and the Parish community.
The room can be booked from 8am-8pm, or later by arrangement. Photos and charges can be viewed on the school website at http://www.stcatherinesprimary.org.uk. For bookings or more information contact Tom Smith on 0845 421 0700.
