Story:Viva Radja

SADACCA International Community Cultural Day was held on 31st August to showcase some of Sheffield’s best community based acts and to share culture together as a united community.

The festival was organised and sponsored by Refugee Support, Thompson’s, GMB Union and Irwin Mitchell solicitors, who also attended the event to support people with information and advice. These organisations normally help individuals with their needs such as housing settlement, work problems, working payments, pensions and anything regarding their rights in the UK.

The front stage included many local performers such as Zwakala Africa Art Drummer, Mrs Roomes and the SADACCA Women’s Group.

The Zwakala Africa Art Project made an amazing performance playing tam tams, with African dances and encouraging people to sing along with them. Mr Drummer played and sang easy listening and classic songs on his guitar to brighten up the audience, and Mrs Roomes was a totally motivating person, full of courage in front of people. I was totally amazed by her hilarious performance, which included poems, songs and a prayer for the audience.

The SADACCA Women’s Group choir sang with truly amazing voices; they also showed the audience the meaning in their songs with movements and gestures.

After these musical events there was a fashion demonstration of clothes from African and other cultures. It was absolutely fabulous to see all the well designed clothes modelled by volunteers.

It was an atmospheric day and everyone enjoyed the delicious tasting food from Zimbabwe, Eritrea and Jamaica, and the cool drinks of juice and beer provided by SADACCA.
