Parkwood Academy is the new Parkwood High School, as students returned in September 2009.
Most noticeable about the first day of school was the sight of people in pale grey blazers. Students were enjoying the feeling of dressing up in smart new clothes – though parents wondered how the mud and ketchup would come off.
Amongst the students were a number of invited guests, including the Secretary of State for Education, Ed Balls MP. TV crews were there to capture the opening. Shortly after leaving Parkwood, Mr Balls commented, “new academy, new uniform, lots of ambition.”
Parkwood’s latest GCSE results also showed it was continuing to improve, with the best ever results: 68% of students got at least 5 A*-C grades.
