Story: Saleema Imam
Over the last two years, local craftswoman Fathima Khan has devoted a lot of her time to raising funds for various charities. In 2008 she took part in the ‘Race for Life’, helping to raise over £1000 in sponsorship, and she got the fund-raising bug.
Christmas cards in 2008 brought in over £200 for Breast Cancer Care and, as her cards became more widely known, requests came in for ‘one off’ special occasions. And this year you may have noticed her stall at the local festivals. She spends about an hour on each individual decoupage card. “No two the same” says she!
Sadly Fathima’s niece contracted meningitis, developed septicaemia and died at the age of 14 months, so she now focuses her fund-raising for Supporting Meningitis UK. £660 has been donated to them since March towards her target of £3000.
