Desert trek for Alzheimer's

Story: Ben Kirby

This November, Burngreave resident Tina Ball will trek over 70 kilometres across the Sinai Desert, Egypt, aiming to raise over £1000 for the Alzheimer's Society.

“I thought it'd be good to do something different,” Tina told the Messenger.

“It's going to be challenging – I'm 55, and not that fit, though I have started training. Hopefully it'll be lots of fun too! I'll be travelling with a group of people I haven't met before. We'll be going to Mount Sinai, and then walking across the desert and to the Red Sea.”

“I've seen how dementia affects family and friends. The Alzheimer's Society supports research to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia. It can make a big difference. In particular, their website is very helpful.”

Besides the trek, Tina has also been busy organising other fundraising events for the Society:

“I raised £95 on the tombola at the Abbeyfield Festival in July. I've also got a book sale planned, and a musical event to come.”

If you would like to sponsor Tina on her trek, please go to http://www.justgiving.com/tinaball. Any old books or potential tombola prizes for future events would also be very welcome.
