Bike Days at the Adventure Playground
Story: Lisa Swift | Photos: Rohan Francis
It was a real summer of cycling in Burngreave with every youth group getting out on bikes. Pitsmoor Adventure Playground hosted a number of Bike Days to help children get their own bikes up to scratch.
With the help of Pedal Ready mechanics and funding from the ABC fund, children had their bikes checked and new parts fitted to make them road worthy and safe. Young people also learned how to fix their own bikes, changing brake cables and replacing tyres.
The final session helped children learn basic cycling skills, to keep the safe on the roads. Young people said,
"It was good, I learned a lot about fixing bikes."
"It made my bike safer, with the brakes, but they couldn't fix everything."
"I got new gears and the brakes fixed, but we need to do it every week."
