Some people, when they look at a city, they see brick and concrete, glass and steel. Me I see suitcases. Thousands and thousands of suitcases piled up on top of each other. Old suitcases, new suitcases, plastic ones, Leather ones. People come, people go, one more suitcase, one less. But every suitcase tells a story. You just have to listen.
From the writer of Eyecatcher, which played a sell out tour in 2006, Suitcase City takes the audience on the physical and emotional journey of four very different characters living in the city, this city. Based on real life stories the play provides a dynamic focus for exploring community, prejudice, cohesion and identity.
Inspired by journeys to the city, a year long oral history project this play combines and interprets the stories of many different communities within Sheffield and the sourrounding region, stories of personal journeys moving home and country, leaving family and friends, journeys of time and journeys of the city itself.
On-line resources designed specifically to further the impact of the production are also offered to fit with English/Dram/PHS/History/Geography curriculum. Schools booking onto the tour receive a hard copy of these resources/
