The Wicker was sealed off to traffic this afternoon, Thursday 26th March 2009, after a fire at the Big Gun, the last trading pub on the Wicker.
Numerous fire engines, police vehicles, an ambulance and an emergency vehicle from Yorkshire Electricity were on the scene. Buses were diverted.
One local businesswoman described the fire as “quite dramatic” as flames poured from one of the upstairs windows but it was soon brought under control effectively by the fire crews. The cause of the fire was uncertain.
