This video shows the response of Burngreave residents to the early ending of New Deal funding for projects in March 2009 and the attempts by one project, the Burngreave Community Study Support Consortium, run by the Yemeni Community Association, to secure continued funding.
Fortunately Sheffield City Council’s Children and Young People’s Directorate agreed to continue funding the project, in a reduced form, for a further 5 months with a promise of continued funding long-term. Sadly, however, funding for the apprentices featured in the video, who were part of a different project, was not continued.

I have just watched the study support video and was pleased to see so many that have benefited from useing the group. I understand the study support group was funded by New Deals for Communities. I suppose my question is that the study support group approached the council and have recieved further funding for a short period of time. How is it that other deserving organisations such as the Messenger and BCAF did not get the same response. All the organisations have been valuable to the Burngreave area. I think it is a real shame that New Deals have not really thought about the consequences of their actions. And how the cuts will have an impact on the area. I ask myself have we as a community moved ten paces forward and ten spaces back?
