Oliver at Byron Wood
On 31st March Byron Wood's Y3, Y4 & Y5 astounded parents, pupils and guests with an amazing performance of Oliver.
Taking songs from the original musical, pupils performed like professionals as Fagin's gang, orphans, flower sellers and market traders. Umar Bashir (Oliver) Mukarram Khatana (Artful Dodger), Misba Rasib (Nancy), shone in the lead roles, while other pupils did themselves proud in supporting roles.
pHead teacher, Tony Carter, delighted the crowd as Fagin, with strong supporting performances from teachers Ted Elgy, Shaz Oxley and Sean Hudson, who stood in as Bill Sykes at the last minute.
Drama teacher Sarah Hyde expressed her deep pride in what pupils had achieved. Everyone agreed with special guest Lord Mayor Jane Bird -" it was a truly fantastic performance."
I was nervous but when I got on stage I wasn't so scared.

Saira Mustafa Y5SK, Fagin's gang and orphan
I really loved it, being in Fagin's gang was great fun. At the end everyone was happy. I would love to do it again.
Glenis Korley, Y5SK, Fagin's Gang
Even though I wasn't playing a main I felt like I was in a real play, I loved it
Mohammed Ali, Y5SK, Mr Brownlow
I enjoyed being Bill Sykes. I were a little nervous but it was worth it. All my friends supported me - I nearly couldn't do it but they helped me.
Adam Ugas, Y5SK, Bill Sykes
The best bit was being with all my friends and I liked the singing and dancing. Miss Hyde was nearly letting tears out so we got her a little gift to say thank you.
Precious Roberts, Y4RS, Flower girl, Londoner
I was so nervous. I just pretend there was nobody there. I liked the ending, we all took a bow then sang 'Consider Yourself'. Children started clapping and Miss Hyde was crying.
Katwamba Mutale, Y4 Londoner/street seller
I was very confident and happy and I was excited to blow the whistle.
Yunis Jama, Y4SO, policeman
