Despite seeing success on the field of play in 2009, local Pitsmoor and Burngreave based football club, Earl Marshall Juniors, had to come to terms with the unexpected and tragic death of Club Secretary Mark Moran Healy.
Mark’s enthusiasm and commitment to junior football was instrumental in allowing Earl Marshall to set up two new teams in 2007 and 2008 and the club now boasts three teams playing in the Sheffield and District league, at Under 7s, Under 8s and Under 13s level. His loss has been felt by everyone at the club and we all miss him dearly.
This season the Under 13s team secured promotion to Division B, clinching promotion with an impressive 6-3 win against local rivals Ecclesfield Red Rose, in front of the biggest crowd of the season. Abdi Ali celebrated becoming the season’s top scorer adding to his tally with four of the goals.
The Under 8s squad continued to make outstanding progress in what was only their second season together, notching up a number of memorable wins including some against the league’s more established clubs. Their hard work in training and on matchdays will bring its rewards when they start to play for competitive points from September.
Earl Marshall Under 7s started with a smaller squad and a few players left during the winter months, but the remaining team stuck together and worked hard throughout the season. They enjoyed their first experiences of team football, saw their results improve on the pitch and can’t wait to move up to Under 8s level.
All three teams will be holding trials for new players in early June. If you would like more information on Earl Marshall Juniors – a football club that is proud to reflect the diversity of our local community – then please contact Mick Ashman on: 07843 731 430.
