Swine flu advice

Byron Wood was the first school in our area to confirm cases of swine flu. Since then it has become more widespread but the health authority tells people not to panic.

Symptoms of swine flu are similar to the symptoms of regular seasonal flu and may include fever, fatigue, lack of appetite, coughing, sore throat, pain in muscles and joints, headache and chills. The current advice to help limit the spread of swine flu is that if you have symptoms, do not visit your GP or hospital – instead phone your GP or call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 or go to the website

GPs will be able to diagnose swine flu on the basis of patients’ symptoms rather than waiting for laboratory testing and medicines will continue to be offered to all those who show symptoms of swine flu at their doctor's discretion.
