Firshill TARA AGM

Story: Sarah Cooper

The AGM of Firshill Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) on 16th June at St Catherine’s School was very well attended, with local residents able to question the Fire Service, Police, Sheffield Homes, and local councillors.

Wendy Barlow of Sheffield Homes took questions about the lettings policy in relation to properties with adaptations; the wide age-range living in some blocks and vacant properties. Residents were assured that comments will be taken back and discussed at future board meetings. Wendy said that from the end of this summer Firshill will have its own dedicated Sheffield Homes officer, with regular surgeries.

P.C. Gareth Webb reported recent arrests of drug dealers causing problems on the estate and Sue Butler from South Yorkshire Fire Service offered free home fire-safety checks and the fitting of free smoke alarms with a 10 year battery-life, contact the Fire Service on 253 2314. 2009 will see work progressing on the ‘Walking Wonderland’, and funding bids in for an Older Person’s Play Area (outdoor fitness equipment), a spruce-up for the children’s play area, and a Street Party to finish off the year.

Pauline West was elected Chair and Maureen Scott vice-chair, with Sue Harris secretary and Jo Wallis Treasurer. Other elected committee members were Barry Scott, Anne Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Vince Conroy and Jamie Reedman with Milton and Marian Graham Honorary Committee members.
