On Friday 13th March Firs Hill Community Primary School held a fun afternoon full of events to raise money for Comic Relief.

A year 5 class were having lots of fun decorating buns, which were made by the school dinner ladies and cost 15p.

When we went to KS1 we found lots of busy teachers painting faces of eager young children. Then we met Gaby and Doreen busy packing up popcorn; Gaby said, "We get to meet children and parents and we raise lots of money. This week half of the money will go to Red Nose Day."

When we entered the staff room the smell of make-up and nail varnish was so strong we nearly fainted! Year five and six girls were busy putting make up and nail varnish on other girls. Anam said, "The manicure is very good because of all the nice coloured nail varnish and how it's put on."

In the sports and arts area we saw some boys - and girls - try to score past some very determined teachers. Soon we met Aliasgar, who said "I feel happy that I scored a goal. My money was worth it!"

In the KS2 hall we saw lots of children in fancy dress. We soon realised that this was for grand finale when all the children in fancy dress took part in a catwalk. This was a hilarious spectacle which was a pleasure to watch. Frankie Currie and Njoroge Msigiti made a funny film which the whole of KS2 enjoyed.

Theo Sparkes won the fancy dress competition because he was dressed as a girl. The grand total that Firs Hill raised was £495.72!

We asked people what they like about Comic Relief:

"It's funny because it makes me laugh!" - Usman

"The different activities are best, and helping people in poverty." - Rozena

"The cake decorating is nice, but the cherries are disgusting!" - Khadija

"Red Nose Day is fantastic I remember it from my childhood." - Miss Revell
