Burngreave Cemetery

Dear Sir,

I recently visited my parents’ grave in Burngreave Cemetery and was very upset to find everything in such a mess. For the last few years the place has been neglected and is now really disgusting. My grandparents’ grave can’t be found because the stone and surrounds have been taken away and there isn’t even a number left.

This cemetery was immaculate for many years. Surely it is time to make this the peaceful and sacred place that it used to be. We owe that much to all our families that have passed on.

Mrs Hill

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am disgusted at the state of the cemetery and the goings on such as drugtaking, sex, rubbish being dumped, giving other persons driving lessons, disgusting driveways, overgrown grass, dog mess and also persons hanging around.

Mr W Wood

Dear Messenger,

I have been visiting Burngreave Cemetery once a month in winter and every two weeks in spring and summer since 1938 when my sister passed away. Since then I have buried my brother, mother and father there. Over the years the state of the Cemetery has got worse. Something must be done to make it a better place to visit our loved ones.
