A panel of local speakers will be at a public meeting on Tuesday 3rd June at 7.30pm at SADACCA and will include:

The organisers say:
The United Nations has accused the government of holding a ‘sword of Damocles’ over the heads of refugees in Britain after the Home Office insisted on its ‘right’ to return refugees to war-torn parts of their home country.
Before 2003 the government recognised that people fleeing war zones could be granted a limited period of leave to remain in the UK until the situation improved. But the Home Office scrapped the policy in 2004 claiming it acts as a 'pull factor’, which encouraged asylum claims. Such actions are simply inhumane, and leave thousands of asylum seekers at risk of death and torture. If they are lucky enough to be allowed to stay in the UK they are allowed ‘no recourse to public funds,’ leaving them at the mercy of friends, charity, or having to work illegally – and dangerously.
A variety of speakers from war torn parts of the globe will be speaking to highlight their plight and to help organise a defence of all those facing deportation.
