This event is aimed at reaching out to people from the African Caribbean community who have had mental health problems or who have an interest in the issue. It has been organized by Ashton Wynter (SACMHA), Ricky Bennett (SADACCA) and Greg Harrison (SCT)
Programme
Lunch from 12.00 will be followed by an afternoon of speakers, workshops and feedback, and questions and answers.
1pm Start. Ashton Wynter will Chair the event and introduce the issue from the perspective of the African Caribbean community. Clive Clarke, Executive Director of SCT will discuss the issues, from the perspective of the mainstream mental health services and services available to people within the NHS.
1.45 pm Everyone will be asked to split up into groups and discuss the following questions:
- What has improved?
- What do we need to improve further?
2.30 pm Tea.
2.45 pm Feedback to Large Group
3.30 Kevan Taylor, Chief Executive, Sheffield Care Trust will outline the strategic commitment to improving services to BME communities, the African Caribbean community particularly. He will also address the question of how this event and others feed into the process of planning for and improving services.
